Blackberries

These blackberries travel better than the ones that get squished in containers on your way home and are generally plumper than anything you’ll find on a hedgerow. Their role in crumble is indisputable but you might not have tried making a drink called a ‘shrub’ by combining them with a little apple cider vinegar, a little of your sweetener of choice (whether maple syrup or brown sugar) and spooning into glasses topped up with sparkling water.
